Biography

Hannah’s expertise and focus at UBC lies in teaching and educational leadership, specifically cultivating practical skill development for entry to industry. Their background consists of both exercise physiology and exercise psychology, in both research and applied settings. As such, Hannah takes a multidisciplinary approach to most areas of their professional life.

Hannah believes that one of the most fulfilling parts of being an educator in health and exercise science is seeing students grow personally and professionally throughout their time in academia. They strive to support students in any way they can to ensure they get the most out of their degrees and leave feeling confident about their place in the industry.

As a proponent of experiential learning, Hannah strives to create an active learning environment where students feel comfortable to expand their abilities, make mistakes, and investigate the relationship between theoretical concepts and applied skills. Specifically, Hannah aims to provide practicum and advanced practicum opportunities to allow our students to enter the field as experienced and capable practitioners.

Research Interests & Projects

Hannah’s research predominantly investigated the effect of mental fatigue on a psychobiological performance of an exercise task, whilst controlling for certain personality traits. From a Scholarship of teaching and learning perspective, Hannah has also investigated educators perceptions of test anxiety among students. They are particularly interested in exploring different teaching strategies for practical skill development, i.e. flipped classroom design for an exercise physiology lab.
